C Drive full! computer-savvy people HELP ME PLEASE

I want to get Cottage Living and Snowy Escape, but I don't have room. I'm using up about 98 gigabytes of 118 available, but The Sims only takes up 30 gigabytes of that. I know I can't max out the C drive without it causing problems. I went through and eliminated anything superfluous, but I feel like I need to run some sort of program to either clean up or compress the C drive? Suggestions on how to create more space? Explain it to me like I'm a child because I'm not a techy. Thanks.

  • @WinterKhirin I haven't noticed a difference in lagging or load time, it seems the same as it did when it was on C drive. Hope this helps.
  • @Goldmoldar I don't believe Origin/EA app have to be installed on the same drive, mine aren't on the same drive.
  • @HopeyStarr and @WinterKhirin It has given my C drive so much more space and according to my husband, who knows much more about computers, he says it makes the computers performance better because C drive isn't lagged down with too much stuff.
  • I just recalled something I did to my Windows (8.1) back when I experienced bad TS4 lagging. I switched off the Win feature that constantly indexes all folders on the explorer system. It is a background task that I believe not many are aware of. It runs in the background occasionally to make your experience better and faster when you search within folder/s. Perhaps a function also some programs benefits from, but I think most programs will do their main indexing as they load anyway. After this, I have much less periodic lag while running the game, and the only backside I noticed is that when I open a explorer folder it might take a few seconds to list the content, and if I search for filename (very rarely) it might take 10 seconds because Win will do the full indexing of that folder or folder group.

I know thee are more Windows tasks working in the background and a little googling will find them. No idea if they are all in Win10 and newer. Shutting them down may not free up much space on C drive, but might still help on performance, and I believe running background tasks will have a worse effect when the C drive is full.

Oh, know it does not as I can install on C; drive as it is only the launcher and keep the games on the externals, but the launcher can be installed on any drive, and I never said they had to.

@Goldmoldar what kind of external drive would you recommend? I'm running into this same issue as @QueenofMyshuno is having and constantly finding myself running scrambling for space. Do I need to make sure that Origin/EA App are installed on the same drive as the game/packs themselves?

@AviendaTristyn how does your game run being on the D drive? Does it take longer to load, lag, anything, or do you not really notice a difference?

@HopeyStarr same question, how does the game run for you now that it's on the D drive? Notice anything significantly different, or about the same as when it was on the C drive? I'm really considering doing this as it's quite frustrating to have to keep scrambling for space each update.

I use WD Black 8 TB and 12 TBs and they are expensive which contains 7200 drives, but you can use others as well and the problem with advertisement is finding out the speed as most will use 5400 to 5900 like Seagate but I use some of those too and I do not have such an issue with those which for me depend on your specs such as a fast CPU and GPU. I do not use external drives that rely on the port and only go for drives with an external power supply that does not depend on the port.
