Can't you use the "Power" option to lessen the brightness of the screen? It works for me in Sims 4 and this forum. I had the opposite need when trying to see the detail in Sims 3's Midnight Hollow. I can go back to default later. Lowering resolution might also work.
I had to ask the moderators to ask someone to change a flashing gif once as it could have caused an epileptic fit.

That didn't work for me. Again strobe lighting effects can happen in just normal lighting with a lit room. Equally having to strain to see icons because of their blending with the background and are too small just is something i think by now for 2014 should have the ability to adjust and customize for users to be comfortable while playing.
My monitor is set to gaming settings already, any dimmer and i won't be able to see what im playing. I think the best solution for everyone is to offer options for players too choose a more comfortable setting.
