It's EA's fault. The game should have started on the 64-bit foundation to start with. When TS4 launched 32-bit computers were all but put out to pasture. They wanted the larger pool of customers that they would get by using a 32-bit .exe. Now that they've got them, "It's been real. See ya!"
The game has always been 64-bit for Mac. It was only one file that was 32-bit, or at least gave a false error message that it was 32-bit, and that file was not integral to running the actual game."Goldmoldar;c-17268242" wrote:
I do not know with those using the OS X Lion face an another dilemma, if they cannot DL any updates going forward they are stuck with any bugs that existed and were not addressed prior to the Oct update as they must make an choice to eithier buy an new Mac, PC or laptop.
Why do they have to buy a new Mac? Why can't they just update their OS? Machines that are not capable of upgrading past Lion are from 2008 and earlier so let's get real, that hardware is simply not powerful enough to properly run the game anymore and does not meet minimum requirements.
Their argument for 32 bit was about PCs. It was 32 bit because of how many of these old computers were running 32 bit Windows. Then they added the 64 bit client. Now they're dropping the 32 bit one. My own feeling was they should have made a game for modern machines, not 10 year old gaming pcs (at the time), but no one asked me :)
I think the big deal with that would've been that people coming from TS3 (which is 32bit) would need to get new machines and possibly run two to be able to play both. EA going "well, you've gotta choose" would not have gone down well then or now. They obviously know this since they're making a 64bit version of TS3 for Mac users.
They could've done all of that back then: prepared TS3 for the switch to 64bit, made TS4 64bit too. But it would have likely delayed the launch of TS4 and that obviously wasn't something they were willing to do (they = EA).
