If you went to the department store to buy clothes or furniture, you pick from what they have. That's the way I kind of look at it. It's more realistic in a way. I only used it a few times and mainly because some items you bought in the store only came in one preset color. I would save the item in a couple more colors to get some variety.
Please, don't start with the "realism" excuse because it goes both ways my friend.
In real life I use a car to go to work instead of teleporting there. In real life I have the option of going into business, being a doctor, a scientist, or even start a political career.
In real life grocery stores and police men and burglars exist, and firefighters come to my aid when I call them in case of a fire.
So if we want to talk about realism, let's talk about realism.
But let's get to the heart of the matter: A lot of people like being able to customize their homes the way they want to. Maybe you don't like options. That's fine, but understand that not everyone feels the way you do.
To the issue of lag: yeah, maybe all the options in Sims 3 did cause lag, but to be honest I expect sequels to use 5 years worth of technological advancements to IMPROVE existing features instead of removing them entirely because it's "too hard" to get right.
Maybe I'm asking too much.
If EA, a AAA company that supposedly has near-endless resources and talent can't keep existing features in their games because they can't make them work properly, then maybe they shouldn't be making such ambitious games in the first place.
