probably not. people complained last time that it was racist.
this is probably why we can't have nice things :)
Everything is racist to these bunch of babies! What would make Halloween (or in this case, "Day Of The Dead") considered racist?
the common complaint I recall seeing was that it was an oversimplification of mexican culture :(
and apparently people didn't like seeing all types of non-mexican looking sims in day of the dead costumes because that's cultural appropriation.
it's sad that these were actual complaints but I'm not lying.
So, soap box. The battle cry for cultural appropriation most times is akin to hey that's mine you can't have that or moooooommmmm they took my toys or better yet: stop copying me, stop copying me!!
No one was trying to steal it or mislabel where it came from. I am not okay with people and culture being marginalized but I refuse to live life with lines dividing people from each other because someone might think something is cool and "appropriate" it.
I taught Spanish language and culture for 8 years. I learned it through books and purposeful interaction. I am Kiwi, Irish, Czech and English. Did I appropriate the language? I am certainly not hispanic but I still use my knowledge of it to define who I am, as it is a part of who I am at this point. Yet it was not my "birthright".
And is not language a far bigger part of any culture than any one celebration no matter how old and meaningful? Do we not encourge others to learn languages? Is that not encouraging appropriation of someone else's culture?
I will concede perhaps the developers included the day of the dead stuff because it seems to be trendy. So what?
Off soap box.
I really enjoyed the Día de los Muertos event.
