- Wow so what does that say to American children who are half Mexican? We adopt the cultures and beliefs of our family's heritage. So what will they adopt? Not all half Mexican children will look Mexican. So they are not allowed to celebrate their ancestors culture and appreciate what it means due to appearances? We take pride in seeing our heritage honored in unique ways and we think to ourselves that's right that's where my family is from. Simplified or not it's part of who some of our countrymen's families are and where they are from and what they believe in. It doesn't stop the sugar skulls from being used in our Halloween stores for costumes or decorations, or on our drink cans , the movies, or in commercials....... is a game really going to make that much of a big thing?
- MidnightAura868 years agoSeasoned AceI actually enjoyed the day of the dead challenge last year. Wouldn't mind seeing it back.
- 5782341b77vl8 years agoSeasoned AceI've see tons of Sugar Skull decorations over at Wal-Mart and such. I'm honestly not offended or nothing about it.
My grandma (on my dad's side) came from Mexico. My dad and his brothers were born in the United States (California). My dad raised my older sister and I not to be racist. Being in the Marine, he always said that "there are no races, only Marine green"!
My younger sister is from a second marriage (different father), though mom raised her not to be racist either!
If parents from two separate marriages can raise their children not to be so easily offended, how hard can it REALLY be? "Karallyne;c-15945266" wrote:

probably not. people complained last time that it was racist.
this is probably why we can't have nice things :)
Everything is racist to these bunch of babies! What would make Halloween (or in this case, "Day Of The Dead") considered racist?
the common complaint I recall seeing was that it was an oversimplification of mexican culture :(
and apparently people didn't like seeing all types of non-mexican looking sims in day of the dead costumes because that's cultural appropriation.
it's sad that these were actual complaints but I'm not lying.
Ah, the "cultural appropriation" people.
I honestly think they're more racist than anyone they call racist. They want each culture to stay in its own place, and loathe any other groups embracing a culture they are "not allowed in" because of their heritage. Yep, sounds pretty racist to me.
It would be hilarious if I got angry at "the wrong people" eating sauerkraut or even just potato salad.
"Hey, don't eat that! ... Wait, you're German, nevermind."- vampyrelucia8 years agoNew VanguardAny info if there is going to be the day of the dead challenge this year?
- I was wondering because while playing yesterday I had the option to ask for a sugar skull from a random sim. I didn't do it because I was playing a family who had completed it before. I did come on and look for news that it was going again but haven't seen anything. I'd like to see it return!

(Any "you"'s below are meant as a general "you" not you personally )
I am second generation to be born in America I am half Irish and half Scottish (Grant Clan).
And yet every year in March everyone can be Irish. I've never been offended by having to share my culture (or peoples interpretations of my culture) with people of different nationalities or about us being portrayed as a bunch of drunks, or gotten offended by "the fighting Irish" of Notre Dame or the use of a leprechaun on the emblems. .. "celtic" knots, Irish lace, wool, braids, rope braids.. Halloween mocks Samhain (which is Irish) . I don't run around ripping peoples plaid (tartan weave) flannels off their backs or crying that they are stealing from my culture.
You know, I don't get this generations mindset at all. Maybe it is a cultural thing but the Irish had it bad too and yet we are willing to share our culture and laugh with people at their interpretations of it too.
We are in a world where people want to be united and truly, finally, have the ability to do so and then there are those that are determined to put up new walls as soon as the old walls fall.
America is a melting pot just melt and go with the flow already, you'll still be special. Someone else sharing in your culture doesn't make you any less Mexican (or whatever culture) any more than it makes me less Irish or less Scottish. - I missed out last year but would love to do this challenge.
There are times when I wish Tumblr never existed. - I’d love to do it too. I see it as exposure to something we may not be familiar with that would intrigue us to learn more about its origins. That is how we learn, after all isn’t it?
- shellbeme8 years agoSeasoned VeteranI honestly think this is a select few who whine about this kind of thing. I feel like we asked for more cultural references in the game and I really feel like ea does their best to deliver. What people need to realize is that all any of it will ever be is a nod to a culture. That is all it can ever be, it’s a stinking game with several limitations.
I also think the ones that complain are most likely the ones that it doesn’t pertain to anyhow. I would love some nods towards Oktoberfest and real German Christmas traditions but I would expect them to be generic and slightly stereotypical and that would be just fine!
