Day of the Dead Challenge this year?

Do you think they will have the Day of the Dead Challenge this year?

  • Well, I WAS hoping it was back on, because both

    and

    Bella Goth

appeared in the same game together. What's even weirder is that the "Base" (my Day1, Week1, 8am save) for this particular game was made on Jan. 7, 2017! Long after the Day of the Dead challenge had ended!

I was doing a replay with my Georgia Lambeth Sim (since I only had the base game when I first created her). After updating her outfits and coming out of CAS, I happen to notice Gavin and Bella dressed in DotD outfits. Upon putting the mouse on them, I noticed the "Day of the Dead Celebrator" title and clicking on them did bring up the "Ask for Sugar Skull" interaction. I also get a "Leave Sugar Skull offering" if I click on a grave (never have one with me though) in all of my games (not just Georgia's)! I also have DotD outfits in CAS as well.

There is NO "call Jasmine Holiday" on the cell phone, and Jasmine doesn't appear either (not in my current game, anyway).

I'm not bothered by it, just bewildered (I think is the word), since Georgia was created AFTER the challenge was over. Is the DotD back or is something gone horribly wrong with my Sims4 game? :/

Has anyone else stumbled across this in your games?
  • I mentioned it to my son who plays and he said he's had sims showing up in Day of the Dead outfits all along and he can ask for sugar skulls, but he has all of them too so he didn't actually ask. He never really thought anything about it until I said something. I don't mind them sticking around but I'd also like the full challenge to return. I know some people don't like them, but my son and I both enjoy the fun addition to the game!
  • Why is it when a few people label something as racist, they have to ruin it for the rest of us?
  • There is a new patch out with a new celebration being centered on so I think we may not be getting the Day of the Dead challenge back. I haven't gotten back into my game yet to see the items but they are for the Diwali holiday. I'm ashamed to say I didn't know what it was but I'm researching it and love how our sims are so culturally diverse!

probably not. people complained last time that it was racist.
this is probably why we can't have nice things :)

Everything is racist to these bunch of babies! What would make Halloween (or in this case, "Day Of The Dead") considered racist?

the common complaint I recall seeing was that it was an oversimplification of mexican culture :(
and apparently people didn't like seeing all types of non-mexican looking sims in day of the dead costumes because that's cultural appropriation.

it's sad that these were actual complaints but I'm not lying.

(Any "you"'s below are meant as a general "you" not you personally )

I am second generation to be born in America I am half Irish and half Scottish (Grant Clan).

And yet every year in March everyone can be Irish. I've never been offended by having to share my culture (or peoples interpretations of my culture) with people of different nationalities or about us being portrayed as a bunch of drunks, or gotten offended by "the fighting Irish" of Notre Dame or the use of a leprechaun on the emblems. .. "celtic" knots, Irish lace, wool, braids, rope braids.. Halloween mocks Samhain (which is Irish) . I don't run around ripping peoples plaid (tartan weave) flannels off their backs or crying that they are stealing from my culture.

You know, I don't get this generations mindset at all. Maybe it is a cultural thing but the Irish had it bad too and yet we are willing to share our culture and laugh with people at their interpretations of it too.

We are in a world where people want to be united and truly, finally, have the ability to do so and then there are those that are determined to put up new walls as soon as the old walls fall.

America is a melting pot just melt and go with the flow already, you'll still be special. Someone else sharing in your culture doesn't make you any less Mexican (or whatever culture) any more than it makes me less Irish or less Scottish.

Many cultures have celebrations that are open to the community -- Obon festival for Buddhists, for example, during the summer. Its a non-challenging (and often delicious if there is food involved) way to learn about other cultures. And we just got decorations for celebrating Diwali (Hindu Festival of Lights) which typically takes place the latter part of October.

I see a lot of houses and apartments with colored lights up in the area -- we have a lot of Indian immigrants here working in the tech industry (there is also at least one Hindu temple plus several community centers) and so Diwali's a pretty Big Thing. Really enjoy being able to bring more cultural diversity to my game when desired. (I want a plain black swatch without the skulls of the mans suit from Day of the Dead -- would be perfect for some of my older Latino male Sims as a formal outfit.)

I too never heard of Diwali and had to look it up too. I think EA is exposing us to multicultural lifestyles (via Sims and patches). I don't have any Hindu friends, who could've told me about it, but I'm not afraid to learn about another cultures. Life is a learning experience, and to know everything is to make life meaningless.

And so you'll know what Diwali is -

Hey there, so yes for this the event does need to be active in order to collect. As the event is not currently running that is why you're running into this. Considering this I'm going to go ahead and close this thread off now as it's been inactive since 2017. If you have any questions about necroposting you can read this thread here : Necroposting
