Did Jacques Villareal kill his wife?

I think the Jacques killed her is canon, only they cannot state it openly.

In my story both Jacques and his wife were members of the Knights of the Hedge, a semi-secret society. Sandra was the idealistic one while Jacques only used the order to enrich himself. They broke up over that when Max was a baby and Sandra dedicated herself to the Knights full time. The older children had a hard time getting over being left, so they made believe their mom had died in a mob war (the father is in the criminal career, after all).

In my rotational save I haven't decided on an explanation, but with many of the richer families being aristocracy in that save, Jacques' (nameless) wife having died in a feud is the most plausible explanation. The "mystery" is simply that you cannot just outright put into the police report that the local nobility still makes a habit of going against each other's throats, so the case was filed under "unresolved".
