One of the most alarming things for me when this game first came out was how quickly all of my played Sims got rather ... large. I mean, no matter what they did all of my sims gained a lot of weight...

All of my sims are active. They go to the gym often as a club activity. Others juggle the soccer ball. Others play basketball. Some go jogging or cycling. Others swim a lot be it pool or ocean. But it's an activity literally every sim I control enjoys and brings their fun meter up. Oddly it came from an early save where my sims all gathered at the gym and it just kinda stuck as activities I enjoy having them do.
