I used to create my own fictional settings, because I enjoy worldbuilding.
But as of late my sims live in the near future in Detroit/USA and Windsor/Canada. I don't care for what the vegetation suggests, for example Del Sol Valley is needed to be part of Detroit, because the game lacks in urban neighborhoods. I force snow in Del Sol Valley with mods and if someone asks about the palm trees, then my sims will tell you "Yeah, a former Mayor thought it was a good idea to plant them here."
I tried to recreate Belle Isle on Windenburg island (I put the abandoned zoo, the aquarium with the speakeasy basement, the conservatory and the James Scott Memorial fountain) and for my YAs that attend the MIT in Cambridge I also built a smaller version of The Sponge dorm. But other than that I'm not faithful to the architecture, I just use lot names like "Corktown", "Sherwood Forest" and "Michigan Drive" without trying to make them look the part.
Sulani and Selvadorada I kept as fictional places with their own government and history, to scratch the worldbuilding itch.
Detroit ??? there’s a simmer that made some lots on the gallery modeled after Detroit homes. They’re abandoned fixer-uppers but the style reminds me of home. I used them
for a rags to riches challenge. Now I want to make a coney island although it would be missing hotdogs and fries smothered in chili and cheese. Don’t mind me, I just love when people show love to my hometown. I’d love to see a picture of your Belle Isle though.
