I think it's a shame they stopped adding them. It was nice to try and work towards unlocking them.
Hidden lots would've been perfect with Island Living and Snowy Escape and would add some much needed depth - for example there could've been a mermaid cavern similar to Forgotten Grotto where you'll find all the mermaid sims. Or for Snowy Escape they could've took the cave in the mountain and made it a hidden lot yeti cave with a yeti residing in it. Just little details like that are fun to find.
