Do you miss the interconnected timeline/canon and stories of the previous games?

Now, I've only started on the Sims recently, but had always been a fan of the series from afar. Having only watched other people play the previous Sims titles as a child, I only got to play my own Sim...

I miss it a lot. One of my favorite memories of The Sims 2 was picking apart the memories and family trees of all of the different sims in the world to figure out the stories past what the game already told. The Pleasant family was the one I remember most.
