I usually play with ageing on only for the active household with the long life span instead of the normal one. Sometimes I turn on ageing for all households for a few days. Though I prolong the life of my favourite Sims sometimes using the youth potion so that the current life stage is set back, and sometimes I let Sims grow older before it's time. Just depending on what I want. Also switch between households, which are all in one save file. And sometimes I cannot save the game, if a Sim dies accidentally before I'm ready. I always take a lot of pictures of my Sims, and put a Selfie on the gravestone.
