Mostly my rules are things like have fun and do what you need to have fun.
I use cheats when it suits my sims story so if they are rich I cheat their money and home but if they are poor I may cheat the money away.
I tend to set something I want to achieve for each save e.g. try max out kleptomania or reach top of medical career. So I don't get bored with game play.
Mostly I follow the twists and turns of the game and let my sims have full autonomy as it gives me things to react to.
I also find even when I have rules I will break them and follow my heart if it feels right for that sim or moment.
I am strict about randomising traits / aspirations and not editing offspring (although hair is not counted).
