I had... less than honorable introduction to sims. But, I remember playing and being completely hooked on the game. I'm talking, "staying up until 5am with two small children at home, and going on no sleep" hooked. It was in 2000, and it was Sims 1.
I told my husband about the game and he played it and at night, once the kiddos were in bed, it was a race to see who could get on the computer first to play Sims. And the other knew, they were just out of luck for the night. We both were hooked.
He played thru Sims 2. He had a tried Sims 3, but by the time Sims 3 came around, we each had our own PC's and his was not really equipped to handle Sims 3 and he got the error code 12, lost a days worth of play and he's not really played since. He'll play for a couple hours, every few years and then he gets mad about something and declares "They ruined this game!" And that's it for him. (I have talked him into creating me some men sims sometimes and he loves what they've done with CAS).
Me, on the other hand. Sims has been my main (generally only) game since 2000. I take breaks, a couple weeks here or there, but I never stay gone long. I think my longest was I took a 3 month break back in 2017.
