Do You Tell Your Parents...

@mercuryfoam Well, my hubby uses shooters the same way as you do, so that aspect at least is not alien to me. He tends to play with friends though. Personally, I would rather hop into my hunting game and enjoy some quiet and beautiful nature and perhaps get a perfect shot at something before it turns around and attacks me :D I'm female too.

I think it's sad that we can't always share our interests with "loved" ones for fear that we will be judged. That's got nothing to do with love. At least my husband's family respects our gaming interests and accept them even if they don't understand them - I mean, they've had to, because their nerdy son has done very well for himself in life doing what he does. So, maybe gaming and computers are of a strange world to them - but, might I add, they do know who to call if they need IT support. 'Cause calling their son saves them money.

Yeah amen to that. I wouldn't bank anyone (relatives) outside my immediate family to understand my interests. That said, I probably wouldn't be able to understand theirs either. I think your relatives are doing the right thing. Accept + respect. The world def need more of that around. :smile:

My mother couldn't care less, I think...and would probably be very surprised, and a bit bored, if I called her to talk about sims. Its not something we talk about. Not even my brother, who also plays, is very interested unless something extraordinary happens.

I talk a lot about The Sims to my mother. From how the game works to what has happenend in my game.

Sometimes I tell my boyfriend. He tells me about his game and we both act mildly interested in these situations. I don't really talk about games with my parents, except sometimes about pokemon go. They don't get it, but are happy that I need to go outside to play.

I've only Simmed in front of my mom once, when we were on vacation, because I had a house request I needed to finish. She saw me working on it and asked if it was a game. I said yes, and she just shook her head like it was a weird thing to be doing on vacation. The only Sim game she saw me play as a kid was SimCity, and as long as homework was done or she didn't need the computer (this was 1989-90 so we all shared one), she didn't care one way or another. I don't recall ever talking about my city destroying ways with her.

I was 20 and married when I started playing the other games. My daughter plays Sims on my account and has since Sims 3 came out. I've offered to get her an account of her own for her birthday, but she doesn't seem to mind sharing (I think because I have so many packs already).

She tells me about her game all the time. Sometimes we swap stories.

No. I'm an adult and my parents don't care about gaming. The things I do on the computer, whether it's hanging out with online friends or gaming, is nothing to do with them. I might tell them about an interesting article I read but that's about it. I did once use a previous Sims game to get a general idea of how I wanted my bedroom revamped though.

My parents never cared about video games, so I didn't bother. I usually told my sisters what I did, though. Nowadays I'll tell my nieces (6 and 4) about my game, since they find it entertaining. Sometimes, we'll even play together.

I think i've never talked about it with my parents. I do talk nowadays to my daughter. She listens to me but she's not that much interested. When she plays a bit, she spends all time in cas making the most perfect sims, always a full house of teens, motherlode all the way, 5 minutes in play mode and it's done :lol:
