As a continuation of the Sims series it is most definitely a failure, and it's a failure overall as Maxis had to be merged with another part of EA (probably due to failing profits, not that they'd 'ever' tell us that).
I don't think it's entirely a failure as a game, but it should never have been called the Sims 4, instead it should've been marketed as an offshoot.
