Do your sims ever die unexpectedly?

I was about to complain that nobody has died onscreen in my game in probably a year, when something weird happened. One of my sim's young adult NPC daughters, who had moved out of the household literally the day before, came over to visit just before I had to take my sim to the Starlight Awards. So, my sim travelled to the awards, leaving the daughter behind at the house with her younger siblings. When my sim arrived at the awards, she had a new sad moodlet from the death of a friend. I thought maybe I'd missed a notification about someone dying, but I was focused on the awards and didn't investigate right away. After the awards, I took my sim home, and all the kids had sad moodlets from witnessing a death. Weird. When I checked their relationships lists, I realized their sister who had been visiting was now a ghost all of a sudden. I checked my notifications and Neighborhood Stories, but there was nothing there about her dying. I also checked all around the lot, but there was no urn, even though the daughter had been there when she supposedly died. The next day, my sim went to the daughter's former home. No urn. She was just... gone.

I felt all this was super unfair, so I used MCCC to bring the daughter back to life. :) BTW, she has the high maintenance trait.

Now I'll complain that nobody has died onscreen in my game in aaaaaages. :'(
