Considering plants don't die even if you don't water them for a million years (with the exception of course of the Cowplant) I doubt that winter will actually kill them either. Making them go dormant is more likely unless you grow them inside.
Uh my plants always die. One died about after a week or so. I just planted one and forgotten about as my sim kept traveling around all that and I found that is was dead, had that stink look to it (like that green stuff) and said to dispose or call gardener which I don't think they could have those plants as they hadn't in the past.
