No. It works like the City Living careers or the Gardening and the Stylist career.

It's like any other of the original jobs. They just leave and you wait until they come back. Though there are small performance tasks you do when they get home like march around for the military branch and plant bugs on sims in the secret branch.

You can also work from home, which is what I do most of the time. Makes it much easier if you are in the middle of doing something else. Work tasks are not that much different from the Daily Tasks that you do after work.
