Dog, bathtubs and the Selvadoria adventure

Okei, first question. When I get this couple and their new found menagerie back home from their expedition, will they be able to safely leave mr. kitty and cheeky pooch at home?

But anyway, I added into my main game save the video promotional Sim couple made for the Jungle adventure pack (downloaded from the gallery) and I immediatly threw them into a jungle adventure for 7 days. In fact, the plan was (and still is) to have them just live in the jungle indefinatly by extending their vacation days as much as possible or until their money ran out (before I sent them I had them buy the smallest empty lot awailable so they would have as much money as possible to start with). They are now in the middle of their vacation. These Sims will have archeology as a career with exploration and harvesting and maybe a bit of fishing as a sideline.

But the trouble is, that I also have the pets expansion and of a very annoying whim (sometimes I just annoy the bejesus out of myself) I had each Sim adopted one cat and one dog (strays that were roaming Selvadoria and they will be taking them back home with them of course). First the cat. No problem has risen so far and the cat has travelled with them, provided them with some feathers and even gotten to the temple without ill effects (so far).

The dog is a newest adoption and here is where I have hit a figurative brick wall. A non-existant bathtub. Dogs need to be bathed?!?

Their little rent-a-cottage only has a shower.

How on earth are they able to clean their newest and stinky member of the household? Please note that I can't open up build to replace the shower.

Anyone have any creative yet non cheaty way of getting poor Rufus clean?

  • You can also use the cheat bb.enablefreebuild (makes build/buy available on locked lots like rentals) and add a bathtub to your rental lot.

Yes! Thank you, no more smelly dogs anymore. Yes, plural. I think this couple are going to adopt every single stray in Selvadoria. They now have one cat and three big dogs. Oye!

what i wound up doing was putting a cheated-in cheap handcrafted bathtub on the 'trailhead' lot (along with a few tents, a fire pit, pet toys, a litter box, and a few food dishes). that way, any sim that was using it to 'camp' (mostly those staying in the lots near the cantina) could go back to this as a home base and wash their dog, sleep, whatever. though i try to have them carry food dishes and tents with them.

(just in case you need/want, to see things like the woodworking crafted stuff, the cheat is bb.showhiddenobjects. it also shows collectibles)

and, to answer your earlier question, you can totally leave the pets alone 'at home' (even if that's just 'the rented lot'). i did that with my initial tester household. they had a kid and a dog. neither of which was much fun in the temple, so just left them on the rented lot (or in the cantina, which i also edited to have some children's activities as well as more pet-related stuff than the trailhead) and things worked just fine

edit to add: but yeah, each of the two pets has a trade-off, of sorts. dogs are able to go potty anywhere at all, even upon command. but they need a way to be bathed. while cats can bathe themselves, but they need a nice, clean litterbox (and will tell you that multiple times, even with a clean litterbox nearby)

This is actually a very good idea, especially the one with the handcrafted bathtub. I can have one of my rotational Sims who has enough handiness to create one and stick it in later along with all the other stuff.

But as for leaving the cat and pooches at home, in the rental cabin I mean, its not working. I have my Sim travel by phone to the national park to reach the jungle from there. But whenever she does that, her partner comes with her along with the menagerie (well, I haven't had them return since they aquired the dogs). The first time that happened, they only had the cat, and they had to go to the rental cabin early because the cat's icon, that they left behind in the park (they were just exploring through the first hedge and to the first building beyond the rope bridge), became orange. Next day they returned and yes the cat appeared as well. But they were prepared with pet supplies and a tent this time. Things went much smoother and the cat was left behind and very happy with its food bowl, litter box and napbed.

UNTIL they had the choice to travel to the temple. The little orange menace appeared with them even though he was lounging on top of the picnic table. And no supplies of course. Things went well and they did some exploring (but didn't do any openings or fiddled with any locks).

Is this a bug or is there something I am doing that is wrong? It seems that with each loading screen the game just thrusts everyone in the household along. And I am not looking forward travelling to the temple with a cat and three pooches. I am definatly going to go end the trip early and send them home (there is only one day left anyway). I am even thinking of having two of the dogs go to other households because 4 animals are a lot for jungle crawling couple.

Ah. So its better if I push on everyone so they are green and then push again and white out those I don't want along? Everytime I hit travel? I'll try that next time
