Cars should be a free base game update for everyone, not behind a paywall though..
a lot of the current paywalled DLC stuff should have been in the base game or a free small patch but this is EA we are talking about -.- ofcourse they will try to sell you a normal full game for over a 1000 dollars which is EA's scummy sceme for the Sims series: excessive DLC and boy are they milking TS 4.. just all out lackluster little patches for full price
Oh yes I agree, no lies detected here. - LiELF5 years agoLegend

I hope it's not a base game update, I don't want them. Especially after seeing the way bicycles work and how the game just gives them to my Sims. Cars were in EPs in the past, there's no reason they should suddenly have to be free now. If they're in a pack, people who don't want them can choose not to buy it.
Not true. There was 1 car available in sims 2 base game & 11 for sims 3 base game. There’s no reason why it shouldn’t be free now. You don’t have to use them if you don’t want to but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have it for those who do want it especially since it’s a request feature. For a “life simulator”, that shouldn’t be behind a paywall.
I would also like to add I also agree about the bicycle being a bit annoying when seeing sims use them in places that are game breaking. What should be done is a option to turn off bicycles & vehicles from being used by sims we are not controlling.

Sims 2 did not have ownable cars until Night Life released. I don't remember Sims 3 having ownable cars when the base game released either, so they may have been patched in when available or I'm just totally remembering it wrong.
The "life simulator" argument doesn't really entitle anything to be free. Plenty of content that caters to "life simulation" comes in packs. The Sims has never been an accurate real life simulator so asking for cars to be patched into Sims 4 would be the equivalent of wanting Aliens or Magic patched as well. (Not saying that would be a bad thing, just that those things are not essential.) Some people may want them, but they're not absolutely necessary. While cars made a lot more sense in Sims 3 for traveling across a large open world, they aren't needed in more closed world games like Sims 2 and 4. Not having them doesn't prevent Sims going to work or traveling, so they should remain optional for those who don't want them by coming in a pack like they did in Sims 2. If they were forced on everyone in a patch, I doubt there would be a way to turn them off and the headache and bugs that come with them would be unavoidable. The way the game works now, if we got cars patched, I'd probably see my Vampires and Spellcasters travelling around in Volvos that the game gives them. I want nothing to do with that.
I do hope they get developed though, for people who want them. - Karamazov1235 years agoSeasoned Ace

For what it's worth, Sims 2 had files and pre-release photos that implied that cars were intended for the base game. Same with weather. They later made downloadable cars for those with any packs that came after Nightlife, so they were definitely trying to make them more accessible. They didn't handle this too well, but for such an old game, I think they handled it decently enough. Cars were in the Sims 3 at launch.
And while I don't think the life simulator argument means we're entitled to get cars for free, we absolutely should get cars for free. I think we're entitled to a ton of things that were in the base game, add quality of life/immersive changes, or anything that would make Sims 4 up to par with past base games. They owe it to us for making a shoddy, rushed game and taking 6+ years to get this stuff out to us, all while we supported them. - Horrorgirl65 years agoSeasoned Ace

Ah, okay. Sims 3 did have them at launch. And I do agree that base game needs free patches to get up to par, I just don't agree that cars should be one of them because of Sims 4's design.
I mean, I get it why people want them in base, it's just... I don't. Because Sims 4 is a very different game, there isn't a predetermined car path or workable roads (that I'm aware of) so this would have to be put in which means overhauling the worlds to put in more pavement and driveway paths so it makes sense. (Again, I'm assuming, based on previous games.) I like the worlds with less of that, I don't want everything to start looking the same just to accommodate cars at every lot. I like that the Sims 4 worlds are more pedestrian. And as I've said in my previous posts, I think cars are going to glitch and cause new bug issues and suddenly I'm not choosing which Sims own what cars, the game is. Like it does with bicycles.
Maybe if they limited the worlds that use them (like the three base and the big cities) I could deal with it. But it would still disrupt the designs of the worlds I've been playing for years. But I guess that's going to happen regardless of if they get patched or not.
I just prefer having the choice. - Big final year I hope
- Pretty much tells us Sims 5 won't be out in 2021 if its going to be a big year for 4...

@LiELF I am sorry but I am going to have to disagree with you. Transportation is an essential feature in order to simulate life. People don't teleport from their bathroom to the park. They use transportation.
Sure, maybe Sims owning actual cars isn't so important but not having any kind of transportation makes no sense in a game like this. All Sims are teleporting from one world to another, no taxis no nothing. Pizza delivery comes on foot! C'mon even the Sims 1 had transportation and that game was bare bones.
We might not necerssarily need cars to drive around but we definitely do need some means of transportation. Nobody teleport in real life, sorry.- LiELF5 years agoLegend

That's fine if you don't agree. It's going to be a different view for everyone. I never saw the Sims games as "real life" simulators to begin with. I don't think they were ever intended to be, with ghosts and reapers and magic, etc.
I do understand and will acknowledge your point as a logical one, however, because cars are indeed a basic part of life in the modern era. And a game that is at least somewhat based on the modern era would be expected to have them. But they are not necessary in a practical term, gameplay wise, because Sims 4 is a closed world. Sims 3, with it's huge amount of space and the eons it took to get a Sim anywhere, needed cars, definitely. So I don't feel they should be patched. Sims 2, with its closed worlds, had cars come in a pack, so I don't think it would be unusual for them to be offered in a similar way. It's possible they could possibly end up going the route of making a dedicated world that's more vast and open, in a pack with cars being a feature. If they patched them in, they may be somewhat simplified, because there's really no place to drive to.
Only time will tell.
