What they did basically was not to re-enter live mode directly but work around it by going into Menu > Just Go to Manage Worlds (without saving)> Select their active household and re-enter the lot they were working on earlier.
Not sure if it works the same way for a community lot. But perhaps you can direct your sim to make the travel over to the community lot to find out?
