- Try something you wouldn't normally do! I have been playing a Teen-Runaway challenge on an empty lot with no money and I've actually found it incredible fun :) I've also started playing rotation style, which is something I never did in Sims 2. It means I get to see the story and backgrounds of families I wouldn't normally choose to play.
Challenges, different families, different careers... the Sim world is your oyster! :) - Try the sims 2 apocalypse challenge! It's hard and fun!
- Another idea is to make a family of 8, and only allow yourself to control 1 of them!

I've been playing Sims 4 off and & on since I bought it. The only thing that seems to happen is Go to work...school...study... Even finding a spouse and marrying is boring - there's no zeal and romance about it lol. But anyway, trying to give it another go! Any ideas on what I could do or how are you playing your game?
What I do is set goals for my Sims, my self since in real life I am nerd I made my goal to reach level 10 of the tech field, my wife who I meet at the park goal was predefined from the game, she wanted to be rich so I made her publish books on the side as well as master cooking carrier since she was a foodie. My 2 kids one is a wiz kid so I make her do well in school and try to get to level 10 in skills, same goes with my other kid except she wanted to be popular (forget the what it was called but the goal was to make X number of friends)
I think if you follow the different paths the game gives you or make your own and do it till you reach the goal it makes the game more enjoyable. For me that is.- KILL! o:)

Well what can expect? This isn't surprising at all. The game is simply not as fun compared to the other base games.- Try to complete aspirations, collect collectibles, or simply level up all skills. :)
- Set up unusual situations and go against sim norms. That helps.
- I always create a story about the family I want to play with when in CAS, then make them. I also throw lots of parties, and since I got deluxe upgrade in the store, is even more fun, I give lots of black and white bashes and incognito costume parties, I created new lots for community (those from EA are boring), you can get them in gallery or in TSR, modthesims, etc if you are lazy.
Then I go to those lots and make chaos happen, I invite sims that don't like each other, I try to up the game, etc. Sometimes I go on dates with 2 different people in very short time and once one of the other guys appeared in the middle end of it and it was very funny lol.
But I guess you have to create different sims (mixed traits and delete most of all the boring EA families). Download people from gallery without checking the traits and mix them in families and see what happens is fun for me too.
I choose to play a person opposite of me in real life and it is pretty fun too lol.
I create rivals too, for example, as neighbors of Landgraabs I made a rich family (with cheats for money) and they kinda compete and brag lol, some are snobs, they throw parties and invite those Landgraabs, but can you believe everybody but them come to the party. I get so angry.
I also downloaded custom traits to increase variety and the mod "More Autonomous Interactions" and "Emotional Overcharge" from modthesims, that makes other sims react more strongly to things (less blandly).
For me Sims 2 Base game was the most fun, Sims 1 base game got boring quick and Sims 3 base game was always kinda bland to me even with some expansion packs.
What annoys me about Sims 4 is that I don't have enough space in the worlds to put more families and people to fight and make friends, that sometimes make the game boring.
