Ever played like this?

What about vacations? They're not necessary but my sims love visiting the vacation worlds.

I tried the Newcrest challenge which is basically that but in Newcrest and with no lots unless previous generations built them. It was fun, though I got a bit bored with it after generation 5 or six, mostly because of how controlled the challenges are with the next generation sims. Sometimes their personality didn't match what they were supposed to be at all.

I also tried it, sort of, once in a challenge of my own design. Each generation was allowed to move only once, and only after marrying someone from a particular world. They were entirely restricted to the worlds that were "open" so at first only Oasis springs, then OS and Sulani, then also Newcrest... Since I have HSY and University I find it gets messy around the time kids grow up, since it means they can't have the full experience of either.

@aaronrulz I've never done this myself, but I have thought of it before. I think it could definitely work as long as you place one of each lot type. If you want only Windenburg residents to be around, and don't mind using mods, I'd suggest using the "Keep Sims in Home Region" mod by Kuttoe. (you can find it on Curseforge) That lets only sims from the world you're in spawn. I agree that Windenburg would definitely be a good choice for doing this since there's plenty of space. What I sometimes do is think of some worlds as being close to each other and let sims travel between worlds that I image to be close to one another. For example, I imagine Newcrest as being close to Willow Creek, but San Myshuno is further away (say, a train ride or long drive), and Windenburg is even further away (a plane ride). That might be a compromise if you end up feeling a bit limited using only one world.

I would love to do this, but I play rotationally and it defeats my immersion when I randomly bump into another played Sim wandering around the other world. I wish there was a way to make sure they stay in their worlds when you play a different household.

I usually play like this. I tend to play almost realistic as possible and having a sim go from Windenburg to Oasis Springs in a matter of seconds just doesn't feel right to me. I let my sims travel to worlds that seem reasonably close. The newest world and Del Sol Valley to me feel like they would be close by so I travel between the two freely.
@mightysprite has a similar legacy challenge here on the forums. I'm playing it as well, each world has a color that the current heir wears and the worlds have certain traditions to follow weekly. Travel is limited to only nearly worlds and each world has certain careers available to them. It's a fun challenge

There are also some aspirations that require traveling to other worlds so you'll have to avoid those.
