Failure to Save Error Code: 0 What Does That Mean?

Frustration is beginning to set in. My game sometimes won't save. I have taken measures to alleviate what I thought could be the problem, too many bits used. So, I did a game repair. When that failed, I decided to do a game folder refresh. That didn't work as something very bizarre occurred, I could no longer access the game! What is up with that? I did the next best thing. Happily, I had only moved my game folder to my desktop. I put it back, but Origin showed I had no games. Rather than panic, I saw where I could restore library. I clicked on that. Then I emptied out my entire saves folder to start fresh.

Thinking an overload could be the problem and that was now resolved, I was very much surprised when upon hitting save, I got a 'failure to save code:0. :open_mouth: Seems, now I can ONLY use Save As. I don't wish to throw out all of my most recent work. I only have two game saves, per se. If it won't hurt the game (corrupt the save) to just continue overwriting the very same save.

Please advise. I don't understand what is going on.

  • Could it somehow be a corrupt Origin file? Maybe try clearing the cache or reinstalling Origin.

I know that Sims 4 game saves can get corrupted, so it's wise to use the 'save as' feature sometimes and continue from that save. Whenever I notice my game getting a little weird or stuttery, I use 'save as' to refresh it. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't.

Also, have you tried bumping back to a previous save in your original game? There is a way to roll back the save to the one you used before the most recent, in case something corrupted in that gameplay session. Use the icon in the lower right of the picture of your save.

Also, restart your computer if you tend to keep it running and it hasn't been turned off in a while. Sometimes the need for updates can do weird things.

Good luck, I hope you find the issue.
  • This is a really old error code! Try what's listed here: https://sims4.crinrict.com/eng/2014/09/fixed-save-game-was-saved-with-an-newer-version/

Thank you very much for responding, first off. I ditched all of my old saves to start fresh. And I use Save As with a name and numbering system just so I can go back to an earlier save when something goes terribly wrong. Mostly in gameplay. I had thought clearing out all of the old saves would 'fix' the problem. Apparently, no. I can Save As, and use save a few times before it will send the code. But I ended up overwriting the Save As, as a result. Thanks for the advice. ;)
  • I also found this about that issue:

Edit: I see Luthien beat me to it. :D

I'll check that out. But I have to ponder why am I getting something old when I've kept my game up-to-date! Some of those patches have messed things up so badly I've had to start my families all over from scratch! Color me mystified. :open_mouth: I also make sure the two mods I use (MCCC and RTF) are updated, too. I try to do things by-the-book, so to speak.

Yeah, I just took a look at it. The only thing I haven't done is to Save As under a different name. Unless you count changing a number or adding a letter as a different name? All of my saves are brand new. It isn't a case of saving an older file under a newer version of Sims4. I never once threw a code:0 until very recently. Bizarre.

Thank you, Both, for your help. I shall continue using Save As, as before, especially if it decides not to save. Normally I do the Save As sometime after opening the save and then just save throughout for all the things I don't wish to lose.
  • I'm sorry you're having this problem. Sometimes bad bugs happen to good Simmers. :(
