- I've got free will on, but I've got it toggled so that the sim doesn't have free will when they've got the plumbob over their head (selected sim).
- Ernesdo8 years agoNew HotshotI used to never have free will on because I was such a control freak, but then I did the ISBI challenge where I had to have it on, and I never turned it back off. Occasionally I'll get annoyed that the sim I'm trying to get to read a book wants to do something else, but it's not enough where I ever think about turning free will back off.
- JanuaryGarnet088 years agoSeasoned AceI mostly play with free will on. It drives me crazy to have sims just standing around staring into space. I only turn it off to set up a specific screen shot of to take pictures with the photo studio in game.
- Hermitgirl8 years agoSeasoned AceI play with full autonomy "on" but with autonomy checked off for selected sim. So is that a yes or no? I don't consider it a sometimes really.
This allows it so the other sims in the household stay busy doing what they want/need to do but I control the played one. The played sim doesn't decide to fight what you want them to do, they don't drop your commands as easy, they still respond to other sims that engage them.
I didn't start playing this way until about 2 years in and it's been a game changer for me. If you feel you're more busy and frustrated canceling out your sims actions I encourage you to give it a try. - Yes, though I control my sims so much it probably doesn't make a difference (I only try not to control toddlers and sometimes children so that I can "parent" them instead with the parenthood methods). I do turn it off sometimes if I'm trying to get a screenshot of something and the sims keep moving. And then I forget to turn it on again, because I'm so controlling usually it doesn't make much of a difference.

- LiaScottie8 years agoNew AceI keep free will off because I'm an extreme micromanager with my sims. I don't like them doing anything on their own.
Playing with free will off since Sims 1. At first I thought Free Will was "Easy Mode" and didn't want to play on the lowest difficulty. But after having tried free will occasionally I've come to the conclusion that it is to the contrary the harder mode, as you constantly have to stopp sims from doing inefficient things. Also free willed sims behave in ways that make them appear (looking for a non-censored word) strange. It makes for laughs, but in the long run breaks my immersion.- Beardedgeek728 years agoSeasoned AceDamn! WRONG BUTTON!!

Hmmmm...I think I will give this a shot. It sounds like a perfect compromise as I do get irritated with my played sim walking away and the like as I am queuing up actions.
