I think that depends on what it's used for. I like to MOO landscaping plants so there aren't huge gaps and you can have a nice looking flower bed, but I don't go overboard.
I liked the look of most of the houses, except perhaps the starter with the flat roof (sorry, James) - it didn't really fit in with its surroundings imo.
