Gardening/Plants and other Problems with the game.

Do you think that gardening since the advent of seasons is not so much fun?

One of the things I love about the Sims has been gardening and how it can be used to an advantage to our Sims.

I get fed up that foraging is a pain with plants and other collectables are never ready when visiting another area. My Sims spend time in the area, mostly fishing, and although plants are glissening with wanting to be upgraded they are never harvestable. Collectables like rocks etc seem to take ages to spawn. Shouldn't these be ready available and not having to wait for them to grown/spawn?

For me this aspect of the game has become a chore and although you can find plants through other ways in the game, there are some plants that despite buying or trying to find in other ways are a chore and frustrating to get.

And it seems to matter not, as it did in the past with me playing families in that area, to spawn plants and other collectables, that they are no longer ready when visiting with another household.

One of the worst aspects of the Sims 4 is that you can't play as you want to play because of glitches and bugs. Those talented people outside of the game make "custom content" to help us with these problems. Do EA/Sims 4 do nothing about these problems because they know that the talented community will help out with some custom content to sort out these bugs? I have had to install custom content because of the bug with my Sims placing the rocket ship to work on. And although I and many others have reported this as not working it goes month on month without any patch.

While they work on giving us new content bugs and glitches continue to plague our game. And I do understand that we are all playing on different machines with various specs. But when you have people reporting the same problems over and over why are they never sorted out? Are they too busy with makiing new content instead of problems?

It's nothing new with the Sims franchise. Even with the Sims 2 and Sims 3 the games were left with problems while they moved on to make a new Sims game

  • Just mho, but the biggest annoyance introduced with Seasons for gardening is that plants all produce harvestables at a set time, which is the same for almost all plants...It makes harvesting anywhere but on the home lot a real pain in the beehive and, even worse, makes the scientist career lot pointless for growing things because the work hours and the time that harvestables are produced don't even align.

Whoever at Maxis thought that particular change was a good idea obviously never actually plays the game.
  • @hely0t, I was talking about the time of day when the fruit spawns on the plants. Almost all plants will spawn their fruit at ~5:00 am. So if you aren't present at 5:00 am you will never be able to harvest them. That's not anything remotely like reality.
  • Seasons made the game worth playing for me, so I’m not upset about how it makes gardening more challenging. I think it’s still fun and I’m glad it’s not too easy, in general. I haven’t played the scientist career in a while but I know I played it with Seasons and the plants did produce harvestables during the work day - I think this time was changed to 5am later in a patch. So I don’t blame Seasons. But it did make hunting for herbs in Granite Falls an ordeal, where you need to go in summer to find most of it, and go back in different seasons to find the rest. I don’t bother with herbalism anyway because I don’t find the benefits worth all that effort and planning, when I often can’t find everything I need even in the right season.

I do miss the true seeds we could find throughout the neighborhood in Sims 3. It was fun to collect them and discover what types they were. Sometimes they were unknown seeds and we had to plant them to learn about them. That was really fun.
  • In rl plants can be harvested throughout a season as they continue to grow and produce. I know playing as a scientist it is very frustrating that you can't harvest the plants, especially when need for your job. I believe this changed with Cottage Living not Seasons.

I have been forced into making greenhouses to put my plants in. This is not always possible with smaller lots.

I used to love playing the science career but with changes over time with the introduction of newer packs it doesn't run as it did with plants.

Before the introduction of Seasons I had made an allotment (community lot) for my Sims to visit and collect plants. This helped with Sims on smaller lots. I also did this with the Sims 3. There are so many types of plants now to have all of them on a household lot needs space and not possible in an apartment.

I do wonder if those making the game understand how some of the long standing players like myself actually enjoy and play the game. I have spent much of my time with all the Sims games finding ways around the game without having to resort to putting in custom content or using cheats to make my game more fun for me. Being able to make the game how I like to play is a big part of it for me and much of this has dissappeared with the Sims 4 over time.

You are correct about plants being ready at a certain time of the day but never had problems with harvesting them. Unless the season is about to change when they seem to drop their seeds and go into hiberation. Some plants even go back to a dirt pile before regrowing it can be very frustrating.

Gardening, Fishing and finding collectables in the game can be fun but with so much added into the game trying to find all of these things can be extremely frustrating. Are we not expected to collect everything?

I do use as much as the game has to offer with playing other households and using the gifting to find some of the things those households seem to find elusive or other ways. But it shouldn't have to be this way. When my household goes to another neighbourhood, plants and collectables should be there growing or there to collect. My Sim shouldn't have to spend hours or even days waiting to plants to grown and rocks to show up when visiting another neighbourhood especially when I have spent time playing families in that neighbourhood.

  • I got rid of seasons to keep my plants, when it snows in the desert that is just way to ambitious for me. LOL Not a real world and I can do with out the rain. Too dreary! You like season cause it's more life like well I'm happy for you ♥
