Get To Work Update Proposal (?)

rework the pack to add police stations / hospitals / science centres into the world. we have lots when we go to work that have a whole loading screen — why can’t we have them in worlds? like the schools and other locations.

  • Going to a high school in Copperdale also goes through a loading screen, because it's a different lot. What you're asking for sounds more like an open world thing which, as we all know, doesn't seem possible for this game.

Also, I'm not sure if the developers are interested in removing already implemented worlds from the game (GTW career lots are technically their own "worlds", only hidden). I'm not sure how that would affect already existing saves. And yeah, they would have to remove these existing hidden career worlds if they wanted to "move" them to another world, even a brand new one.)

If you're asking for them to implement career lots to the map view, so to speak, than sure, I think they could go for that, but I don't know what that would accomplish. I guess one could build on them straight through manage worlds?

One also has to consider that the map views for Willow Creek and Oasis Springs would have to be adjusted for the career lots, and I don't even know if that is even possible to do in a way which doesn't affect people who do not own Get to Work.

And if I remember correctly, the developers did originally want Magnolia Promenade to be an addition to Willow Creek, but they could not get it to work without messing up existing saves, so they made it into its own world instead. Same story could be true for the career lots as well.

I do think, however, that there should be some way to easily enter build mode in these "hidden" lots.

You could make these lots anywhere but they wouldn't be properly staffed because the current hidden lots are tied to the go to work/go to school functions by default. I don't know if there are mods that could make it happen though. It's a shame we can't make a private doctor's office to see patients in the same way we can run a vet's practice.

The only thing that's possible currently is to edit the career lots we have which for some lots requires using the cheat bb.enablefreebuild but because there are certain items that are required for career tasks it has to be used carefully (and make a backup before trying it incase something goes wrong). I've used it on all of the hidden career lots. That police station was so drab! I added a proper gym and cafeteria and brightened it up but I avoided doing much to the fingerprint station, interrogation and jail cells. I just changed the colour scheme/decor for those areas. With the hospital I made more space and added offices for Doctors and a better canteen. Plus I made more room around the beds because staff kept getting blocked in. I upgraded the High School too. But the most fun one for me is the Science Lab. With Discover University I added a robotics lab and made bots to garden and do the cleaning and a party bot too. I also made some Servos to work there and added a Strangerville basement. I give my scientist Sims the Professional Slacker trait so they can have a bit more variation in what they do at the lab instead of being tied to the daily tasks so their career doesn't suffer.

The good thing with the freebuild cheat is it doesn't need testingcheats true to be entered first so it doesn't disable achievements for console players, so unlike some cheats anyone can use it.

I have made a Science Park too using Get to Work, Discover University, Strangerville, Jungle Adventure and Journey to Batuu. But obviously it's not a career lot. It has a rocket and all of the logic building items and some Star Wars items on display. It's a quick route to Sixam for my collector Sims.
