Give toddlers and babies fun!
Firstly they need to stop making babies an object!! I watched a great video on how they could make babies have two life stages (newborn) and then the slightly older baby stage before becoming a toddle...

And who knows, maybe they are hard at working liberating the babies and they will be released via a patch right before we get the next EP. Okay, that's wishful thinking. But I can dream dang it. lol I'm not going to count them out yet. Because honestly, right when I truly lost hope for toddlers - like no joke. Two days before they dropped those precious little cinnamon buns on us, I had tossed in the towel - they gave us the most wonderful surprise.
If we do end up paying for them, I'm thinking it would be awesome to get real babies say with a Pets EP, if that happens. A nice little bonus in the game!
But if all else fails, and our wish is not met. I'm really holding out hope for them to return in Sims 5 along with many other features that have been missing. :)
It just doesn't make sense to leave babies as they are when so much thought has been put into toddlers does it? Now the game's even more of a hot mess than before haha. I wish raising babies was more of a challenge, stripping them of need bars just makes it too easy.
And wow, same happened to me, on the very day toddler patch came i was telling my friend who is also a simmer that i was going to give up and just reinstall Sims 3 :D
