Neither matter to me. Since Sims 1 I have used the game to play my own sims and never even thought of playing an in game family. ( although I did use the Betty and Bob Newby tutorial). After that, it was always my own created sims only. It actually never, ever, crossed my mind to play a game generated family.
Every single premade in S4 is gone from my game, including the new ones added from GT. There were a few stragglers, but they were deleted during my attempts to hire my own sims as staff at Frank's restaurant.
