Grilling / roasting problem

Okay, I'm giving up. How do you roast anything other than marshmallows over a fire?

Sounds like a stupid question, because the obvious answer would be to just click on a burning fire and choose an option, but it only works with marshmallows. When I tell her to roast a fish or anything else, she does this:

Doesn't matter if those trunks are there or not, she will always complain that she can't do it. Tried a different fireplace, same result. And yes, she does have a grillable fish in her inventory.

Okay, I've checked. I can't roast anything actually, on an uninhabited residential house. So, I guess that's the issue. You could try changing the lot type to "general" perhaps?

how long has it been since you last used one of these fire pits? and have you installed any new mods or outdoorsy even food-related cc since? there's a chance one of them may have an unexpected conflict with the firepit. other than something like that, i can't really see why she would be having routing issues there

I don't think I've actually ever roasted anything other than marshmallows and bugs before, both of which worked fine, with or without seating nearby.

Anyway, I repaired the game and restarted without mods, but it still didn't work. Then I travelled to another lot with a campfire, et voilà - suddenly it worked, even with the mods back on, so that can't have been it. Apparently the location was the problem, maybe because it's an uninhabited residential lot? But then it would be nice to have a pop-up or something informing you that what you're trying to do is inappropriate, rather than the sim pretending they can't reach the fire.

I still don't get why she could still roast marshmallows, but none of the other things. So yeah, it's probably a bug after all.
  • I'm getting that with a lot of items in game lately OP. I'll click on, say the fridge and tell a sim to go get left overs and they'll stand in front of the fridge with a picture of the fridge with a red / through it and not go. but if I click for them to move closer to the fridge first, then tell them to get leftovers again they'll do it. I think it might be an interaction bug of some sort.

@duhboy2u2 is this happening in households with more than one sim? it could be that another sim is in the middle of routing to the fridge to grab food themselves. i've had that happen more than a few times, esp when first loading into a household (and then one of the teens will invariably head to the grill out back and start a fire...)

Oh yes, that is so annoying! :s My game operates in a "last come, first served" kind of way: The last sim who decides to get anything from the fridge, be it autonomously or directed by me, overrides everyone else's plans to do the same. Sims seem to have this odd ability to sense that another sim wants to get to the fridge at the same time even though they're in completely different places on the lot, but don't even consider that by the time they get there themselves, the other person might already be done.

As I said in my last post, that didn't solve the problem. It was the lot the campfire was on, for some weird reason.

Oh oops. Didn't see that. Hmm so your sim is on an uninhabited residential home... Wait, how did you even get in an uninhabited home? XD I forgot how to do that. Maybe I could test it for you, if I remembered how to do that. ?

You can't enter an uninhabitated house, but you can interact with any items surrounding it on the lot. (I for one wouldn't put an open campfire inside anyway. :D ) So to travel there, just do it the same way you visit any other place on the map.

If you want to try it, let me know how it goes. :)

    Okay, I'll try that later.
