Help me choose! Discover University or High School Years?

For context, I have the packs I want most, and I'm not interested in the gameplay of active school (either) so that's not a factor in my decision between Discover University and High School Years.

I play a lot of rags to riches and legacies, but I often short-lifespan through infants and toddlers, and what I like most about children and teens is building Skills and Traits and setting up story for their young adult and adult years, so children and teens are more backstory than story in my play style. I also like a good World with lots of lots (they have a similar number), and Build/Buy (opinions?!). I've looked into both Discover University and High School Years, and am listing my personal "pros" below. I'm not listing the "cons".

Discover University
  • 3 new careers (Law, Education, Engineering)
  • 2 new skills (Research and Debate, Robotics)
  • 2 new after school activities (E-Sports Competitor, Soccer Team Player)
  • That degrees build Skills and set you up for Careers, and are a bit of a mini-quest
  • Roomates
  • WooHoo in the shower
High School Years
  • 2 new part time jobs (Simfluencer, Video Game Streamer)
  • 4 new after school activities (Cheer, Chess, Computer, and Football Team Member)
  • 3 new CAS traits (Overachiever, Party Animal, Socially Awkward)
  • EZ Exit Window
  • That it is slightly newer (by three years), and the newer packs tend to have better quality objects in terms of both design and graphics

Any advice? What do you love about Discover University and/or High School Years, if you love them? What parts do you play with most?

Miataplay I agree with what you said. I want to send the Mother of the family to get her Degree at some stage, before she has children. Then I want to see how the child play is at going to school. There is so much we can do with both these packs. I think they both have a lot of interesting play.  This will be some time yet, as she hasn't started a career, I enjoy going to all the worlds and finding whatever she can, then I want to have a go at putting her items for show in a Museum. That's if that's how it works. I also like to build so my time gets filled up with that too. A bit of an all rounder! 😅

It would have been nice if the afterschool activities were for all ages. When I look at my own children, many boys in primary school play soccer. But for some others they seem more appropriate for a specific group. I hope we can get some more after school activities for children in the future.

  • The shower woohoo is my favourite 😀 I only own Discover University and have enjoyed playing it. I have created a nice university town and have university dorms in Mt. Komorebi and Windenburg too, so that my sims can have an exchange year there. I have had at least three sims who graduated and I plan to have more. I also like to have the football for my kids and teens to juggle with.

  • Out of the two, I prefer Discover University. You can already send your teens to high school. Going to high school with them can get repetitive after a bit. It's nice to have the option, but I find I don't want to accompany them everyday. I needed to add a mod to choose classmates to make this pack work for me. I'm a rotational player who plays in neighborhoods, so I wanted the teens in my neighborhood to be the ones who show up. Fortunately the mod works great for this! I have used the after school activities often.

I find I use Discover University often as it adds something not in the game at all. There are times as a rotational player that I only want the degree and the suggestion that someone has gone back to school to get it. So I install a mod that allows university to be completed with less credits. When I want to send a group to university after high school graduation, I remove the mod. I usually stay with the group until they finish university, but it's possible to rotate away after a term and just wait to re-enroll them when you rotate back. If you are trying to complete the academic aspiration, you'll want to give yourself the entire university experience.

As for which to buy, it depends on what will add the most to your game. What story do you want to tell?

Yes…. I love the club system in Get Together.  I have teen clubs and children’s clubs.  Such a good way for my rotational sims to get to know each other.

i also edited the High school lot to have a gym, basketball,  a wood shop room, and a knitting room.  I changed the music and art rooms upstairs somewhat.  And I added a science lab, where students could work on projects from parenthood, with frogs and things.  There is just not a lot of after school time to do too much.  I haven’t tried to see if you can use the school on the weekends.  I know sims can go to the auditorium room, I do send sims there where I added a Photo Booth,  and some activities for sims.

  • Personally, Discover University & High School go together perfectly & they both have so much themes to them.

  • I find High School years gets old very fast, I never go with them to school anymore. But Discover university is something I use a lot, just getting my sim out of the house and run amok  or become a super brain is challenging. I also like the way the sims can all live together and i only have to control my own sim. It's the communal housing that I like the best.

FengjuiI admit the sheer number of beds in High School Years makes it very appealing! I love to decorate.

  • I have both, and I have a lot of teens right now, so I am playing more of High school years, before moving them to university.

The only thing I can really think High School years could help with is that rags to riches game play. High school years has a thrift store where you can put together outfits to sell. I have had some of my teens that lived by themselves put together outfits to get some income.
