How do you manage?

I have 2 cats and 1 dog in my house. 3 Sims should be easy to manage 3 pets, right? Well...there's something that annoys me a lot:
1. Pets get sprayed every time they get out of the house, so my sims have to brush, wash, comfort, pet, brush, wash...
2. I visit the vet a lot more than I wish...my pets get sick a lot! Like almost every day, is it something happening to you as well?
3. Last, but not least, my sims forget what they were supposed to do. Like in middle of the action they completely reset - food on the floor, or just staring at the toilet, shower, etc.
How do you manage it?

  • In one family i have with my simself is:

    1 single mom
    1 toddler
    3 dogs

how I survive? routine routine routine  . I dunno I find both pets and toddlers pretty easy, I just have a bit of a rotation and I always help them out before hand. put the tot on the potty 2 times, boom they know how to go on their own. tell the dogs to potty outside if I can't take them out at the moment. refill their bowls or have a auto refill pet bowl on schedule. All my human sims eat at the same time so family sized 3 meals a day. Ofcourse in the middle of the day I get a lot of stuff done, everyone's leveling in their own way while following in that rotation.

Now the mother is also a vet, she actually takes her son and the dogs with her to the clinic. He and the dogs help by talking/playing to the pet patients.

    Vet Clinic

For me, to keep both his (the toddler) and the pets needs up while mommy is working is:

    • potty chair in the bathroom, litter box: cause everyone's gotta go right?

    • toddler cooler/OR cooler: this actually helps employees, pet owner patients and the main vet needs as well. Also nice for sitting

    • Bookcases: these are good to have for all sims, and I'd make sure there's some toddler books in there. That way they can raise their imagination. I actually had a moment where the dogs were surrounding the toddler that was reading

    • Pet bowls, chew toys, : without saying, I feel this is good in general for a vet clinic since It helps the pet patients needs too.

    • Vacuum: because they all make messes, so be prepared...have even two

    • Doggy/Kitty plush toy, blocks: The doggy/Kitty plush blends right in to the clinic theme and it helps the kids too. I do have blocks in the clinic, but a small toy chest could work too. But if one isn't a fan of cluttering with toddler items, just make sure they bring a tablet. For older kids, buy the vet kit doll <3

I think that's all. When the little one gets tired he naps on the couch. When the pets get sleepy, they nap on the floor or couch. By then It's usually around the time that mom closes the clinic.

The reset is a major issue. Pets seem to cancel sims action when they want something from them. I've not had to take any of my pets to the vet yet. I did have to use some wellness treats though. I would suggest leveling up vet skill until you can make those at the craft station. In one of my saves, there is a bush right by the house and the pets have gotten bitten or sprayed more than a few times, you can just leave them though. They will be fine after a little time. Dogs if they get sprayed have to have a bath though. If they get sick after being bitten, wellness treats. They can be made or bought at a vet clinic.
  • Hmm, it's not as bad in my household. I have two adult sims, two kids and two cats. They get sprayed by a skunk or bitten by squirrel all the time, but they take care of themselves like normal cats and I had to visit vet only ones- when female cat got sick. But that was only one time. Other than that, they pretty much clean themselves and are ok in general. I'm not sure if your game is buggy, or if you are just a little bit overprotective ;)
  • My pets only get sick when I change household. I have two I'm playing, all the same family, had to split and take a dog when the eldest's time to marry came up and it was totally full.
It's incredibly aggravating that they've allowed for rotational play and yet EVERYTHING resets, relationships, pet health, inventories, work uniform...it's ridiculous, no way you can actually progress (not that there's much to progress towards!)
But mega sick of all of my pets being poorly at once and being able to do nothing about it because the game refuses to leave that household as it was and make up its own stories.
Don't get me started on the absent mindedness of ALL of them -.-
  • My Sim just recently got married to Catarina Lynx (please don't ask me WHAT I was thinking :/ ), and so far, I've had poor Josie infested with fleas, and Doc had to go to the vet due to an illness. Ok... THAT wasn't too bad...

    UNTIL...

Cleo started yeowing! She's going into "heat" and looking for some loving! Quickly, I grabbed Cleo, and I rushed her to the vet to be spayed! As soon as I get back home, Josie started yeowing! REALLY?! I grabbed her and rushed her to the vet for spay as well! Once I got home, and noticed Doc acting sick again, I decided to go ahead and have him neutered while I had him there. I don't want any unplanned pregnancies (nor be part of one) on my hands!

Little Bartholomew Jr is the ONLY ONE who's not been sick... SO FAR! Once he ages up, I plan to neuter him too.

By the way, Catarina was either at work or goofing off on the computer, while I took care of her sick cats!

Another prime example of how Catarina is a BAD pet owner! Get her away from those cats!
