I suggest if you do find yourself getting bored then step away from the game for a while, do something else and you might find inspiration will randomly strike :)
I also found picking a particular hobby or skill for your Sim can give you motivation to develop their skills and career
Watching YouTubers play often inspires me to get creative :)
As others have said don't be afraid to mess things up for your Sims and introduce a bit of chaos ?
