I created 3 clubs for my game and I'm going to soon create a 4th. They're a good way to get a group of people together quickly and often the NPC sim will stop going to work to attend a club meeting when if you just called them and invited them to hang out at the current lot they'll more likely than not immediately leave to go to work. Clubs can also simulate various types of gatherings so I have a dance troupe (Nancy Fontana And The Go-Gos) who function as a club, I design them various stage costumes and then I have them show up at a nightclub or big gathering where their sole instruction is to do various group dances on stage.
I've also cheated creating a pop group using the club system. There's 4 in the group and they perform music, again in stage costume. Not only do you get the group to perform music but they're also gaining club perks to make them better musicians as they go.
