"Manage Households" is basically a way for you to manage/control other Sims in your game without actually manually playing them yourself. It's a huge improvement from previous games. My favorite part is how you can simply add members of the families (especially kids) without having to go into the household and doing it yourself. It's a much easier way to keep your worlds alive. Also, unlike in Sims 3, if you see a very ugly Sim (whether it's their hairstyle, outfit, etc), you can easily change it using the 'Manage Household' option. In Sims 3, it was a lot harder to manage sims outside of your household. Sure, you can use the 'make over station' to do it, but that also reset their ages for some reason, so it complicated things more than it needed to be. The same happens if you try to edit a sim using 'TestingCheatsEnabled true'.
'Manage Households' is one main feature in this game that definitely does better than Sims 2 or Sims 3.
