I am currently waiting for some of my most important mods to be updated, but so far it's keeping me pleasantly entertained. I came away from the Q&A live stream a bit disappointed. From the way they first explained the island and how it would change depending on how well our Sims took care of the environment, I thought that would be ongoing. But it seems that once the island is cleaned up and the ecosystem has been restored, there is nothing to do except enjoy it. Much like StrangerVille in that respect. Unless one revives the Mother Plant and you can set the world at the level of weirdness each player wants to have. SimGuruJill did say they were going to release a cheat code so we can reset Sulani back to where it was in the beginning, but that was not my understanding when I first heard about the pack. My bad, I guess. I should have done a bit more research before getting my hopes up.
I am enjoying the pack, but once again the teams have missed some opportunities that would have added more complex gameplay. The fact the Sims that litter or poach will face consequences is a nice touch, but I was hoping for something more. Such as the beaches being hit with debris after a monsoon, and our Sims in the Conservationist career being called upon to go out and clean it up. Failure to do that would result in the beach becoming unusable until the debris is taken care of. But that isn't the case. Everything just stays the same once the island has been restored. There is no middle ground. Or anything to do to keep the island from reverting back to it's original state because once it is perfect, it will stay perfect.
So many new glitches! I've been playing Island Living less than forty eight hours and I can already see I am going to need more mods to add to the ones I have now. I hope Sims4 Studio is updated soon and has a batch fix for some of the CC I have. I went through my CC folder yesterday and deleted a lot of files that were older, and because of the new tanning option some of my CC skins don't work properly now. But I guess that's a good thing as I have room for new CC that will no doubt come along soon as CC creators start doing recolors of the new meshes. Which are awesome, by the way. So many new clothing options! And the new furnishings are gorgeous.
There is a lot to like about Island Living, but at the same time there are a few disappointments also. Which was totally expected. There is no way for the teams to know what everyone wants, then implement those wants. I am satisfied with it as far as the world goes because it is so beautiful, and it's nice to see our Sims swimming in the ocean, or interacting with the new locals. And I have to say the residents of Sulani are the nicest ones we have had so far. It's really cute when my Sims drink a bit too much Kava and end up sleeping it off on a lounge chair. :D It adds a nice touch to the laid back island vibe. There is a lot more to do and explore, so my initial thoughts on Island Living might change over time. But at this point, I give it a 9 out of 10 rating. It's a nice expansion pack.
