There's no need to meet your professors in person. There's an option on the computer where you can email to ask how well you're doing in every class. I think it's under the university menu.
And usually when your sim does their homework and attends every class for the full duration thereof, they won't need to do too much additional studying, especially if they've already maxed the related skill.
