Small Business - this or that?
I'm finally upgrading my game by adding a few small businesses to most worlds, and not limited to Nordhaven. I love the fact that SB actually doubles the number of lots as long as we are willing to add several functions to each lot, and in some cases also build higher. On most community lots there can be a living household, and most residentials can provide some SB that can be visited when playing other families. My goal is to add more businesses to visit. I have plenty of households already. I want each new SB to provide reasons for active sims to visit that lot, being a shop, have fun, socialize incl. dating, and perhaps building skills or support their interests for storytelling. The lecture feature seems nice, but I suspect it might take a higher ranked business to make the teaching good, financially. I changed a few lots and I keep getting back to a few questions - this or that. I might build a small business, but after completing the build, I realize that there are too few reasons for other played sims to visit as customers. Because I play rotationally building a business takes forever, so it's more fun to focus on the visiting aspect. I'm not sure I understand the SB concept fully, so I would like to learn about other simmers' experience. #1. Charging customers When do you chose charging per hour, and when is it better with once entrance charge? I tend to prefer charging per hour, but it requires customers to stay a while. If they pay only once, it would be better for my business that customers don't stay for long, but rather allow new customers to arrive. I also use per hour for shops, because my visiting sims would not stop by to buy anything if they need to pay a bigger entrance fee just to enter the shop. But I'm obviously missing something: When would it work better to charge customers just once? #2. Build two houses or two stories? Do you normally let the owners live upstairs, or do they reside in a 2nd building on the same lot? I tend to mix the two, vertically vs horizontically, and I keep thinking it would be better to separate them better. #3. Tagging the rooms? I normally restrict access to the private rooms, only, and perhaps also to the employee rooms. But some times I just leave the general business room untagged. Is this wrong, must they be tagged for business to work propperly? The reason I leave the business rooms, is that I often include some customer activity outdoors, like a pavement serving, or a small garden/park. Should they all be built as rooms in order to be seen as part of the business? #4. Is there a way to set an object not for sale? When placing items on surfaces, they automatically get set for sale, even if the business is not a shop and buying stuiff is not a customer activity. Occasionally I want to turn off "for sale" on a specific item. Is there a way? I placed a group serving in a cake display counter, and it got set on sale, as expected. Moving this item to a dining table will not remove the "for sale". By storing the serving in a fridge instead, moving it to the table avoid the "for sale". I think dining tables are excepted, but are there other ways to avoid the "for sale"? #5. How to avoid "eat until you drop"? We know sims gauin weight quickly, so I was a bit upset noticing that serving a group meal made the one c ustomer eat again and again until the serving was empty. The fact that the cupcakes were poor quality had no effect on this. Eating food is a customer activity, but with a total of 5 different activities I was expecting less focus on just one of them. Is there a way to serve food to customers (not being charged, but helping them staying) without the same sim eating again and again? Could it be trait specific (Foodie?), that it might not happen with every customer? #6. What features gets easier when SB rank builds? I play on rotation, so it will take years to build only one customer star. What bonuses that come with higher rank do you find most useful and worth reaching for? Okay, enough for now. Pls comment on whatever quote you like, or add more even.Story line ideas?
The sims community is so creative so somebody’s bound to have some ideas 😂 ive been playing with a “legacy” sims family for about 3 generations now (gen 3 are having their kids now) and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas for storylines to play out? ive been really enjoying playing with occult sims a lot (lot of vampires on one side of my family tree and some spellcasters). I’ve got a vampire werewolf love story I’m playing out atm (they now do romantic actions together autonomously 🥰), and they now have 3 children that I’m hoping to kinda focus the story on, but not really sure what I could do with them? ive had a few ideas to convert forgotten hollow into a “uni campus” (move all my young adult occults to forgotten hollow and play about with the university pack a bit). But not really sure about that idea anymore. So please literally if you have any ideas (even if you think they’re silly), I would really appreciate it! I don’t want to get bored again after gen 3 😂🙏Annoying Gnomes from Enchanted by Nature
I have the new expansion pack for fairies and I’m aware that gnomes were a big part of the marketing for some reason. I’m currently playing in San Myshuno in a family that has nothing fairy related going on, yet these stupid gnomes keep appearing in my home. Sometimes they clean, other times they break everything in my house. I’m aware that in the game options there’s a way to turn off things like dust bunnies and whatnot but why doesn’t an option exist to turn off these dumb gnomes? If I’m missing something, someone please enlighten me because I’m so sick of having to call the repair service every time these gnomes appear. I’ve been dragging and selling them when they show up but not before they break everything. It’s honestly just a really annoying feature. I can understand them showing up in Innisgreen, but in any other neighborhood is just plain ridiculous. I honestly don’t even see the appeal.286Views2likes6CommentsWhat Are Your Merfolk Doing Today 2.0
Since the old thread has multiple broken links and things are different here. I decided to create a 2.0 version of the old thread I created. I thought I would create this thread as a variant of the “What happened in Your Game Today?” thread. Serial and non-serial updates are welcome. Any mermadic discoveries in the Sims are more than welcome, including discoveries while using mods. Let's give our MerSims the spotlight here! Tips for what to share: The Only Rules: Keep the updates focused on merfolk! Denizens of the sea like Cecelia, Kelpies, and other variations of ocean dwellers are welcome here.1.4KViews4likes143CommentsCompatibility & Self-Discovery Explained
Hi! This thread is a 2.0 version of these threads put together: Sim Characteristics and Social Compatibility - A Look into Tuning Files Self-Discovery - An Attempt to Understand Tuning Files Due to spoiler tag issues in this forums and how the post hierarchy system works here (and how posts can be collapsed), I've decided to make a new thread which could also look in other things. Turn-ons and turn-offs for example, even though the description of each one gives you the exact into which attracts sims. This thread contains info on the following topics: Sim Characteristics & Social Compatibility Self-Discovery system Turn-ons and Turn-offs & Attraction Grief Trait Replacements Update Log Use links to jump to desired info. Please do not comment under the linked post. If you have any additions or suggestions, let me know! Comment under this main post or any other post that isn't linked here!4.9KViews10likes123Comments"How does that work, anyway?" Ask me anything!
Are you curious how something in the game actually works under the hood? What a certain buff does? How a certain trait changes things? What benefits there are to something-or-other? I have a series of posts on my patreon (free, don't worry!) explaining in-depth how game mechanics work. You can view a list of them with links here! (You may need to click the tab on the bottom) I want to do a mish-mash post for smaller random things, so I'm doing an AMA! Tell me what little things you're curious about and I will peek into how they work. I think it's a lot of fun to find this information and explain it! I am moving, so I won't be doing this constantly and I'll be away for all of tomorrow, but I'll try to answer anything that isn't too complicated. I probably won't explain whole features (Each of the linked posts takes a good amount of time to dig into) but I can explain smaller stuff! Don't be afraid to ask mechanical questions, too, like "How does a trait, in general, make something-or-other happen" or whatever.380Views9likes6CommentsThe Life of a Sims 4 Bug
Sul Sul! In yesterday's Laundry List we provided a behind the scenes look at the process we follow of identifying and resolving bugs in The Sims 4. In the interest of transparency as well as to preserve this information for future audiences I've transcribed it here as well: 🐞 Issue is Discovered & Verified When a player reports an issue via our EA Forums, a friendly Community Manager or EA Forums superuser will see if help can be provided through troubleshooting and alternative methods to try, confirming if the game is working as intended, or if this may be an issue related to mods. If not, they'll check whether the issue has already been reported to merge it with an existing thread or start a new one. A ticket is then made for our Quality Assurance (QA) team to review. They may need to collect more information from players to reproduce the bug on their devices, which is critical for the next steps and why we always encourage players to provide as much specific detail as possible when reporting an issue. Our Sims teams are also discovering and reporting issues internally that get documented alongside player reported issues. Due to the wide variety of freedom with The Sims 4, plus the randomness and variation in playstyles and player options, it’s impossible to truly test every possible scenario. This means that some issues may only appear in specific environments, and while we strive to address as many as we can prior to launch, we appreciate your understanding. When QA is able to reproduce the issue, they will file a ticket for an engineer to review and give it a severity rating, which can depend on how many votes it has received and how disruptive to gameplay the issue is for players. Your votes matter! 🔎 Fix is Investigated & Created A team of engineers will be assigned to work on an issue and figure out the cause. The scope, type, and risk of bug fixes can vary wildly, from relatively simple fixes through to complete code system restructures. Given the almost infinite variations of devices, operating systems, unique combinations The Sims 4 content installed, unique gameplay styles, and mods downloaded, it can be no small feat to identify the root cause! Once the engineer understands what’s causing the technical issue, they can start to plan how to best resolve it. Fixes can bring their own unique challenges, such as accidentally introducing more issues, which is the last thing we want to do. When the engineer has created a fix, the QA team comes back into the mix, to test each fix before it’s released to ensure the fix works as intended across all platforms. 🚀 Fix is Deployed to Players If that all looks good, the code is then submitted for review for final approval. Once approved, it’s scheduled to be deployed during a specific release. We understand that with each update, there’s the potential to disrupt your gameplay, and so our team takes care to group as many fixes together as possible to limit downtime. This essential yet often behind-the-scenes work involves collaboration across multiple teams. We prioritize issues based on both the reports and votes from the community, as well as the bugs identified by our QA team. Thank you for your continued reports and votes on what issues you want us to address!Solved1.5KViews20likes20CommentsPOSTING THIS HERE BECAUSE I HAVE NO CHOICE!!!
I've uninstalled and deleted all folders, I've never had mods, there are no screen capture software active, I reinstalled the game and still CTRL-Shift-c and Shift-leftclick is not working. CTRL-Shift-window key-c also does not work, the cheat bar comes up but it flickers and the moment to let go of the keys the cheat bar disappears. There is no way to contact anyone anymore about this problem. I can't put in a ticket, I can't "Start a chat" with EAhelp, I went in circles yesterday and no solution. May someone please be able to contact or protest this issue so it gets fixed. If not imma just be a Karen and report this problem to the BBB.
