That was one of the best things about TS2, I loved the fact that you had to take your sims to town to get new clothes or buy groceries. In fact EA missed a trick here, if they had continued to use that system in TS4 they could have had sponsorship from clothing companies again like H&M in TS2 and made a few extra dollars, which they could have re-invested in the game.

The endless wardrobe and never empty refrigerator was from Sims 3. I wouldn't mind having an option to order things on the computer, like clothes or groceries, but the items would cost more than going to the physical store -- you'd be paying for the convenience just like with much of online shopping (some grocery stores deliver the food ordered online but you have to pay a delivery charge, for a Real World example).
