Improvements to TS4's Core Game Engine??

Maxis has a new job posting listed for a Core Software Engineer which I thought was pretty interesting.

What You Will Do

Reporting to a development Manager, as a Core Software Engineer on The Sims, you will work on core game features. The work will range from rapid prototyping to enhancing game systems and implementing new features. You will work on a variety of tasks from supporting and improving The Sims 4 engine to implementing game features for Create-a-Sim, Build/Buy, Sim animation and other major game components. Most of the work will be done in C++.

Job Responsibilities:

Extend existing The Sims 4 core features and create new ones in C++.
Work with designers, producers, content creators and other engineers to develop game features.
Write technical design documents detailing software requirements.
Write cross-platform code with performance and memory usage in mind.
Debug code to document and fix bugs.
Solve to support active live service.

Maybe their next trailers will look something like this then. This is a video that Luumia did recently.

That was really super cute and actually pretty professional too! I would much prefer videos like that showcasing the game and/or packs rather than their cheesy voice-over ones talking to us like we're 5 years old!

  • Any step forward is a good step forward, glad to see they're hiring people for this, I look forward to what comes about.

So no one else has ideas for changes they hope to see ?

Whim overhaul -> Wants and Fears (when a fear is completed the sim will gain a fear emotion buff)
    Lifetime desires
Party/Date rating system -> instead of the goal event system parties should have a rating system like in TS3 that dictates if a party was "awful", "ok", or "great", based on the guest's emotions/needs.
    Better AI
    Story progression
    Grocery system

    C++? Isn't TS4 written in Python? That's weird...

It uses both. I think it may also use C#, but I am not certain.

    Hugh...interesting. Thanks didn't know that.
  • @Scobre, it's too bad it's a mod body hair & not the actual Sims 4 body hair. Oh well. :'(

No, not certain, just several Spanish speaking people on the Youtube video and on the actual twitter post commented that the Spanish Sims twitter has tweeted pics in the past that contained CC in it, so think they were just trying keep people's excitement and expectations in check.
