IIRC, children do inherit fame, but I'm not sure if they're able to build on it by doing activities. And the actor career is full-time, so it's off-limits to teens too.
I recommend playing a bit to get your sim to the YA stage. It'll help pass the time while waiting for GF, and you'll be ready to try out the EP once it drops.
