A large scale rewrite would be a waste of money. EA would be better off just developing a brand new game which they could actually make some money off of. The idea that updates lead people to buy DLC isn’t entirely accurate in my opinion.
I also think that the next game has started production recently. There’s no reason to bring out a specific time frame if there’s no planned end to the current title. 3+ years is the equivalent of saying this game will be around for at least 3 years, plus more time if we aren’t ready to show off the next title. I could be wrong, but the wording implies that 3 years is the second wave much like the first wave which lasted 4 years.
