I feel like its very kiddy, talking toilet, serious poop? Teens today aren't playing games like the sims but instead games like resident evil and the like.
This isn't new though. There's always been weird quirky interactions like that even in the older games (talk to microwave and fish in swimming pool comes to mind). Though this is the first I know of in the franchise that the game refers to using the toilet as "pooping".
With that said, I don't think teens are playing Resident Evil, as last few Resident Evil games have been remakes, specifically made to appeal to the people who grew up with the franchise originally. I'm being pedantic though, as I know you meant more violent and action oriented games.
That said, I don't think "those kinds of games" (eugh, I felt weird saying that) have much overlap with The Sims fans. The Sims fanbase seems to be a majority women and LGBT players whereas horror, action and adventure games in general are very male-centric, though of course there's obviously exceptions - there always is. My point is, saying "teens aren't playing this, they're playing this instead" seems odd to me, because there are teens playing The Sims, they're just generally not the same ones playing it as the ones playing DOOM Eternal.
Young adult and teens definitely are playing games like re, fortnite, dead space, final fantasy etc..
There hasn't been a Dead Space game made in 7 years, my friend. I really, really don't think teens are playing Dead Space, lol.
You may be surprised. I know my teen and a few of her friends are into retro gaming. So they play older games because it is more cost effective as their parents may still own or buy used older systems and older PC games.
And don't forget those teenagers who were too young for Dead Space when it came out and are just now old enough for their parents to say they can finally play it. I mean, it's like when there's a movie your parents wouldn't let you watch when you were 7, but once you hit 14, they finally said, "Yeah, you're mature enough now, have at it...But don't you repeat those cuss words, or you'll be watching Barney and Friends until you're 35!"
