Over 70, and see it as shallow, superficial, and simplistic. Like a Christmas tree ornament, pretty on the outside but fragile with nothing inside.TS2 has a nice balance and is a game one plays, not a movie one watches.
To be honest, I find it the opposite, I can't stand TS2's cut scenes, that to me is more like watching haha! And I try to make the Sims do something but their personality gets in the way and they do their own thing... so it's more like I have less say in it and more movie-ish. For example I wanted to start a relationship between two sims but they didn't like each other and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get them together. Very frustrating, detrimental to my story line, and like a movie, I had no control over it. Sims 4 on the ohter hand I can make them do whatever I want so I can create proper story lines that I invent, it feels more interactive to me as it's me doing creating, not the game. It makes my game play feel more meaningful and it's why I can play for hours on end, where as Sims 2 I get bored with haha.
But then again, I also love Christmas ornaments lol
That all being said, neither game seems "childish" to me.
I think that the difference between Sims 2 and 4 is like this:
Sims 4 is a virtual dollhouse - Extensive CAS, beautiful, easier for the player to control the Sims' stories in order to tell their own, and leaves much more room for the player's imagination. Player chosen Traits/personalities only lightly influence behavior and most game mechanics are easily overridden in favor of the player's wish fulfillment (like having a chance to cure sicknesses and poisons, fair warnings, relationship manipulation, etc. ) Gameplay is relaxed and Utopian and often uneventful when left to its own devices. It's theme has a positive and cheerful spin and stays lighthearted.
Sims 2 is a virtual humanoid ant farm - Character creation has a strong relevance to behaviors and plays a large part in dictating Sim stories. Player can influence Sims to a certain extent, but Sims will often have a will of their own. Challenges and obstacles pop up unexpectedly, keeping things unpredictable for the player. Player must tend to Sims carefully, but bad luck and mismanagement can lead to quick and uncontrollable chaos. Gameplay requires consistent attention and management for balance and can have both positive and negative results. It's theme has an often sardonic humor that parodies even the simplest of life's trials and tribulations.
So basically, depending on what the player wants to get out of their game will determine which one they will find more enjoyable. There really isn't a "wrong" preference. Both games are just...different. But I think that when looking at the comparison, it's understandable why people who really enjoyed Sims 2 feel that Sims 4 has a more "childish" flavor to it. It may not be the most accurate description of the differences, but Sims 2, by comparison, had a little more grit, gall, and dark humor.
