Is there any way to protect against theft by kleptos?

well, if you're not even willing to cheat the trait off, then no. outside of deleting him there is nothing you can do.

No worries @Sineea just check your family inventory and you will find all the stolen items there. Apparently, the klepto gets conscience and sends back the items in the mail or something lol. My sim's art shop used to get hit too and I was about to do something drastic to the offenders but when I went into build mode to start my plan I happened to see all my lost paintings in the household inventory so the kleptos were spared.

Yeah, that's one of the traits I edit out of the townies in CAS, along with slob. I had a Klepto I played in my supernatural game, he was a teen vampire wannabe who shacked up with Vlad.

I wasn't bothered by this trait until I start playing with a bakery. There was that one Klepto who was always stealing my paper towels or soap from toilets. So annoying... and also rather realistic when I think about it.

There isn’t any natural way to stop him to my knowledge, no. You can’t confront him about it, you can’t send him to jail for it. I suppose you could kill him off somehow, but I don’t know if you want to get rid of him completely. :p If you did want to, I guess you could also just delete him.

I know you didn’t want to hear cheat suggestions, but just in case you decide to use that last resort, your best way to go about it would probably be to use cas.fulleditmode, take him into CAS, and just remove the trait and replace it with another. It’s pretty harmless- but I get not wanting to cheat your way out of things.

All-in-all, this is why I never use the kleptomaniac trait. I thought I was going to love it when it was first released, but it drastically annoys me. Especially while having tons of Sims.

Thanks for the info @aujineh didn't know i could send back stolen item to their rightful owner.I got a sims who keep stealing items from the Secret laboratory and the police station :sweat: .

Now that he's a visitor, the klepto trait isn't as amusing. He's stolen every single bar stool at least once. He even stole the huge freaken DJ booth right in front of everyone at a party. A security bot for kleptos and other devious sims would be nice.

Actually there is a way with a new feature from MCC, it's a improved autonomy selector and you can pick and choose different interactions for the same objects. I already used it to stop playing in the dollhouse for adults only, watching toddlers and klepto. But since OP said no mods or cheating, I guess the only thing you can do is watch the sim closely because they get embarassed if they're caught trying to swipe anything, then it fails (unless you also bought that "no embarrassment" reward, then you're doomed).

Ugh, of course I find all of this out as he's almost maxed in all skills. I will just have to re-do him. I mean, the reason I thought there might be a way to protect against it is because in earlier versions of the sims you could buy a burglar alarm. So, you were able to protect against theft at night, when you sleep, when it makes more sense you might actually get robbed, but to not be able to protect against it when it's happening right in front of you just baffles me. He's even stolen couches from a party with everyone around. That shouldn't be easy to do.
