I agree completely.
I know after all this thread was made two years ago I'm sure you weren't expecting it to come back to life this month
be well happy simming
I certainly wasn't. And I certainly wasn't expecting people to have the attitudes that I'm seeing (that really worry me.) They don't seem to understand how games like this form the attitudes that people have in real life (as much as we'd like to *think* it's all "fantasy.")
Oh sure, and people have also said that listening to rock and roll can make you a satanist and reading a book about war makes you a warmonger and playing Dungeons and Dragons will brainwash you into thinking you're a dragon slayer and turn you into a murderer. These things are untrue unless the person in question is already unstable to begin with.
Listen, I assure you I am no stranger to the horrors of the world concerning this topic, and I understand your stance of trying to protect others, but Cancel Culture goes too far when it spreads into art and fiction and puts a magnifying glass over everything, overthinks and dissects, and tries to control what concepts other people are exposed to. Censoring anything that
might be taken in the wrong context by a few unstable people and making it forbidden does not solve a problem. It not only leads to oppression of creativity, but also the individualism to make one's own choices and be held accountable for them. There is a line that crosses from awareness into hysteria, and Cancel Culture is breeding the latter. The act of censoring art/entertainment because you are afraid of the impression on others is hysteria. It is unreasonable. In real life, yes, horrible acts of humanity should be rallied against and fought. But fiction is fiction and people also need to be held responsible for recognizing the difference. Being offended by something does not automatically equate it as being offensive.
Additionally, some people need to be able to laugh. The darker things in life can be lightened and confronted easier with laughter. Laughter is healing. For some people, that's all they have. Satire has a unique way of leading to discussion in a light-hearted way and bringing issues to the forefront that people can actually acknowledge and understand without making it an anathema.
I understand your intent is to help. I don't fault you for that. And I may have initially reacted a bit harshly so I apologize for that. But I just can't agree with your stance. The censorship of fantastical humor, art and satire in a video game that is neither distasteful nor realistic and meant to laugh at life is the wrong thing to do.
