I guess the build/buy modes items are more geared to family stuff and child/teen stuff mostly; though sometimes when I've wanted some house or other from the Gallery I've noticed it's in the uses stuff from these packs list--child/teen bedroom stuff I guess. Of course I'd have no use for anything in The Toddler Stuff, or Kid's Room Stuff--though there may be some things in the My First Pet Stuff pack that could be interesting.
There are some nice Build/Buy catalong items like the kitchen set, and new combo tub/showers with shower curtains instead of a door, and some quite colorful ones. If you're a builder it's worth it just for those items, especially if it pops up on an Origin sale. For those who are family players it's pretty much a must have.
I think MFP got a bad rep because of the marketing and the addition of items that were obviously themed to go with Cats & Dogs. The small pets are actually a lot of fun, especially when you get postcards from their travels (I've been gradually working on the postcards collection with one of my families since that family is to complete as many collections as possible).
